The Heritage

 The Heritage (English)

In an interview with the author, Jack Michonik, he said, "The Heritage is the story of two Jewish families who leave their shtetl during the early part of the 20th century to head to America. It was the time when thousands of Jews were fleeing Eastern Europe trying to escape anti-Semitism and especially poverty. Most of them went to the United States, but there were many, like us, who went to Latin America. The story begins and ends in two places that do not exist in reality, one is a stethl and the other an unspecified city, a provincial capital of a Latin American country. In the saga of these families, when they are traveling to America, certain historical events occur such as Paris, the murder of a General at the hands of a Jew, or a woman who swam across the English Channel. All these are historical events that actually took place and occurred in the precise dates in the book, which is the birth of a Jewish community in a Catholic city. Judaism is not going away, but rather it will stay in places where there is a large enough core to keep the tradition and the flame alive."
